Tips for Interview: Timing and Appearance is the First Impression

For many interviewers, your showing up late is immediate cause for canceling the interview. It doesn’t matter that traffic backed up, your cat threw up a hairball, or you just got lost in the elevator. Being on time is not racing down the final corridor with moments to spare. Some interviewers agree with New York Giants football coach Tom Coughlin—being late is not being fifteen minutes early.

Nice Hair . . . And Love the Lipstick

Poor grooming is a basic turn-off. Wearing so much perfume or cologne that a gasping interviewer lunges for the window is a bad way to start. So is wearing more makeup than a runway model, clanking along with a pocketful of change or an armload of bangles and bells, or doing your best Priyanka Chopra five o’clock shadow impression. This is an job interview, not a celebrity interview!

You may have pertinent skills and experience . . . heck, you may be perfect for the job . . . but you never get the chance to tout your credentials if your grooming makes a poor first impression.

Uh, Does That Tie Glow in the Dark?

Do I really have to tell you, ladies, that a dark suit is appropriate dress for every interview? Given the tube tops, sneakers, short skirts, and patterned stockings I’ve seen waltz through my door (and all on one candidate!), maybe I do.

For men: white or light blue shirt, conservative suit, silk tie, shined dress shoes.

Crack GD PI: Interview Preparation Mindset

Employers are looking for self-managing employees—people who are versatile, confident, ready and able to work with a team, and not afraid to roll up their sleeves, work long hours, and get the job done. “That’s me,” you chortle. Congratulations. But you won’t get the chance to prove yourself on the job without making it through the interview process.

Interviewing was never easy, and right now it is harder than ever. Companies are taking far longer to make hiring decisions, and then only after putting prospective employees through more and longer interviews. One search firm reports that many candidates have had to interview a half dozen times or more for a single position.

But of all the tools in your professional arsenal, your ability to shine in that brief moment in time—your first interview—can make or break your chances for a second go-around and, ultimately, dictate whether you’re ever given a shot at the job.

In January and February, the departments and faculties will consider your application against all others and draw up a ranked list of their top applicants.
  2. Nomination
Departments/faculties will nominate the very best candidates from their ranked list and submit this, together with a departmental/faculty statement of support, to the Board of Graduate Studies.
  3. Offer of Admission
Departments/faculties will make a recommendation for an offer of admission to the Board of Graduate Studies for their nominated applicants.
  4. Selection of top nominated candidates for CISS awards
In March, all the nominated candidates with a conditional offer of admission will be considered by a selection committee comprising academic members of the Board of Graduate Studies. The committee will draw up a list of candidates who will be made an offer of a CISS award immediately. A reserve list of candidates will also be drawn up who may receive a CISS award should any become available. These candidates will receive a confirmatory email. Several hundred partially funded awards will also be made by the Cambridge Trusts to candidates unsuccessful in obtaining a full cost CISS award.

If candidates have not received an email by the end of April, they should assume that their application for a CISS award has not been successful.

It is a condition that successful candidates must meet all their outstanding conditions for admission to the University in order to receive CISS funding.

How to Prepare for Interview

Like playing the piano, interviewing takes practice, and practice makes perfect. The hours of personal interviewing experience, both the tragedies and the triumphs, as well as my years as an interviewer, are the basis for this book. I hope to spare you many of the indignities I suffered along the way, by helping you prepare for the interview of your worst nightmares—at a comfortable remove from the interviewer’s glare.

Will you have to answer every question I’ve included? Certainly not; at least not in a single interview. But chances are the questions tomorrow’s interviewer doesn’t ask will be on the tip of the next interviewer’s tongue. Why? It’s a mystery.

Most interviewers are not trying to torture you for sport. Their motive is to quickly learn enough about you to make an informed decision—should you stay or should you go? By the same token, if you
know what they’re looking for, you can craft your answers accordingly (and reduce your own fear and anxiety at the same time).

Study in USA: Professional Education, Accreditation Scheme

Professional education in the United States is evaluated and accredited by independent commissions recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The majority of these commissions are also recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education (Division of Eligibility and Agency Evaluation). Nonregionally accredited, freestanding, independent schools that have specialized accreditation are briefly described in this section.

Information on these schools can be obtained by contacting the accrediting agency at the address given. Most commissions accredit their members through a process involving several steps. Before achieving full accreditation, applicant institutions are awarded prior status, which may be  called by various names and carries different meanings: for example, some agencies call their candidates for accreditation "preaccredited," some say they are "provisionally accredited," some are "probationary," and some are accredited for a “reduced term”, depending on the results of an evaluatory visit. The applying institutions or programs may or may not have been operating professional offerings and may or may not have graduated a class. For some agencies, candidate members almost always automatically become fully accredited; for others, candidacy brings tentative accreditation. Because of these inconsistencies, Part II of American Universities and Colleges lists only fully accredited, degree-granting institutions and programs.

REGIONAL ACCREDITING AGENCIES

Eight accrediting commissions operate in six distinct regions of the United States: New England, Middle States, North Central, Southern, Western, and Northwest. These regional commissions accredit entire institutions, as opposed to programs within institutions. A ninth commission, the Interregional Accrediting Committee, is controlled by four regional commissions and exists to accredit a single institution: Western Governor’s University in Utah.

Interregional Accrediting Committee (IRAC)

IRAC was created by four regional accrediting commissions: the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities; the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges; the Northwestern Commission on Colleges and Universities; and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Higher Learning Commission. IRAC’s membership consists of three commissioners from each region and the executive directors of each participating commission. IRAC is administered through the Northwestern Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Interview Tips in Simple

Most interviewers are not trying to torture you for sport. Their motive is to quickly learn enough about you to make an informed decision—should you stay or should you go? By the same token, if you
know what they’re looking for, you can craft your answers accordingly (and reduce your own fear and anxiety at the same time).

I hope you’ll take it a step further and use these questions as the basis for some thoughtful self-exploration. You’ll need to be prepared to think for yourself—on your feet, not by the seat of your pants.

While competitive, certainly, the interview process is not a competition. Rather than thinking of yourself as an athlete trying to “out answer” the other candidates, consider an interview your chance to be an artist, to paint a portrait of the person you are, the kind of candidate any company would like, respect, and want to hire.

Despite the emphasis on “great answers,” I do not recommend rote memorization. Trotting out a staged, textbook answer to a question is not the point of the interview process . . . or of this book. It is actually more important to concentrate on the “What do they want to hear?” section after each question, to have an understanding of why the interviewer is asking a particular question and what you need to do to frame a winning answer.

Recruiting the Best Candidates

There are thousands of freshers recruited each year by multinational companies selection officers during off-campus and on-campus recruitment tests in colleges, including the most popular vacancy in today’s India: IT vacancies like Software Engineer, Network Administrator, Programmer etc. Many of college students expect their selection procedures at campuses as the most important day of their lives. There is a point I want to stress about the mindset of future MNC employees.

There is a small video from Stanford Enterpreneurship Corner, check it out:

What drives you crazy is:

  1. The Fear of NOT Being Placed.
  2. What People around Will Think about Me If I am NOT Placed.

Admitting that in many cases selection process is NOT a 100 per cent fair game, let me remind you: in many cases campus recruitment IS a lottery and a matter of luck. Be calm. If you cannot change it, adjust to the situation and … live further. Life is NOT finished and you are NOT done as a professional and a personality and, moreover, as an individuality. Now, prepare your head and do create a proper mindset towards the next company.

What is important is to realize that you get the job because you will bring value to the company. Make sure you are bringing as much as possible, and show it, make it visible. Remember that you are NOT the first employee of this company ever, you will be replacing somebody else; be better at the job role than the previous employee. Take it upon yourself to understand and the position so you so not need a lot of extra training. Be confident, enthusiastic and positive. You want the day that you start to be a better, more productive day for the company that on before you got there. According to the article of Robert Half Technology, some of the best attributes you can bring to the table include:

Make it your goal to improve the “seat productivity” of your position, not just replace it. Stand firm and … good luck with the next campus recruitment campaign.

Anyways, you can address every question regarding GD PI Campus Recruitment papers and procedures to one of the trainers of Incisive Training pvt. ltd. – it is our job to get you the best placement available. We also train to crack aptitude tests, verbal ability test, HR interview, technical interview and group discussion, of course.

The Erasmus Mundus Masters Program in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP)

The Erasmus Mundus Masters Program in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP) is a 2-year-long international Masters course funded by the European Commission. It directly responds to the educational needs created by the rapidly changing global environment and new public policy challenges. Mundus MAPP equips graduates with the conceptual knowledge and hard skills that are necessary for understanding and decisively intervening in contemporary transnational policy problems, from climate change to international terrorism or financial regulatory failure. It provides a detailed and systematic understanding of how political institutions, processes and public policies operate and interact from the global political economy through to national and local levels with a direct focus on European engagements at these levels of governance. Inter-disciplinarity and practical application of conceptual knowledge are hallmarks of Mundus MAPP.

Four leading European universities joined forces to deliver Mundus MAPP: Central European University in Budapest (Hungary), Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (Spain), the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University in the Hague (Netherlands), and the University of York (UK). Building on Mundus MAPP’s successful track record, the integrated curriculum provides a uniform core of policy studies as well as modules specific to particular mobility tracks, drawn predominantly from the fields of International Relations, European Studies and Development Studies. The four mobility tracks allow students to specialise in Political Economy and Development, Governance and Development, and European and Global Public Policy, respectively. Each mobility track includes a field trip to a relevant public sector organisation and an internship.

Mundus MAPP’s unique combination of strong conceptual foundations with practice and policy-oriented learning will provide graduates with transferable skills and subject-specific knowledge for embarking on or furthering professional careers as policy-makers, policy-analysts and advisors in the civil service, international organisations or the corporate and non-governmental sectors, and for enrolling in doctoral programs in a range of relevant subjects. Mundus MAPP graduates will have a thorough knowledge of European policy making milieus and solid institutional and personal networks that will take them forward to leadership roles and constructive future engagements within Europe and the rest of the world.

The European Commission’s Erasmus Mundus program provides scholarships to outstanding students from within and outside the European Union to attend Mundus MAPP and to visiting scholars to participate in teaching and research. The Consortium universities also support these students by offering partial tuition fee waivers to Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients.
